01.Therapy works through repetition
Pediatric therapy works because the brain is plastic — it rewires with repetition. Every session is a building block that strengthens new neural pathways. Research across OT, PT, and Speech consistently shows that children who attend at least 80% of recommended sessions reach their goals significantly faster than children who attend less. Below 70% attendance, progress often stalls or regresses.
02.What missed sessions actually cost
A missed session isn't just an hour of therapy — it's the loss of momentum. Skills built in last week's session need this week's reinforcement to lock in. When the gap stretches to 2–3 weeks, your child often has to relearn what they had, instead of building on it. Over a year, that adds up to months of lost progress.
03.How we partner with you on attendance
We send appointment reminders, offer flexible scheduling at most locations, and keep waitlists for makeup slots when possible. When in-person isn't possible, we can switch an appointment to telehealth so your child still gets that week's session. If life is making consistency hard, talk to us — we can adjust the schedule, reduce frequency, or pause the plan rather than letting attendance quietly slip.
04.When life happens
Kids get sick. Families travel. Jobs change. We get it. Cancel as soon as you can so we can offer the slot to another family, and book a makeup if your therapist has availability. One or two misses won't derail progress — but a pattern can. We'll always tell you when we see one developing.
05.Tips that work
Pick a recurring weekly time and protect it. Treat therapy like a non-negotiable medical appointment, because that's what it is. Use the same caregiver for transport when possible — relationship and routine help kids settle in faster. And do the simple home strategies your therapist sends — five minutes a day at home is worth a full extra session.
The 80% rule
Children who attend 80%+ of scheduled sessions are significantly more likely to meet their goals on time and discharge on schedule. We'll always work with you to keep your child in that zone.
Frequently asked
What if my child is sick?+
Please cancel — we don't want to spread illness in our gym. Most locations can offer makeup sessions when therapist availability permits.
Can we do a session by telehealth?+
Yes. When an in-person visit isn't possible — illness in the family, travel, weather, a sibling conflict — we can switch an appointment to telehealth to keep services consistent. Your therapist will help you decide when telehealth is a good fit for your child's goals and send any materials you'll need ahead of time.
Is there a cancellation policy?+
Yes, and it varies by location. You'll receive the policy at your evaluation. We are always reasonable when it comes to genuine illness or emergencies.
What if attendance is hard right now?+
Tell us. We'd rather adjust the plan with you than watch progress slip. Sometimes a temporary reduction in frequency — or switching some weeks to telehealth — keeps a family in therapy long-term.
